Will I Have To Take High Blood Pressure Medication For Life?

To remain normal, your high blood pressure (BP) needs to be reduced usually with medication... over a prolonged period of time.
As per usual, medication only controls high blood pressure... it doesn't really get to the root of the issue.
Like patients who take anti-pain pills for Arthritis, the pills do not stop the Arthritis but it manages the symptoms that we do not want- the pain. Anti-hypertension pills keep complications from occurring because of excessive high BP. Remove the tablets and the issues re-occur.
So in this instance you take the medication, you keep your blood pressure stable.
Occasionally though, well motivated, direct looking and really concerned patients do something about it.
Something has been noted that if a patient has kept stable blood pressure readings for about 2 years and then they try alternative therapies they can actually reduce the medication (with Doctor supervision). Some have even been noted to ween themselves off the drugs all together.
This doesn't happen for everyone. Those that think that a pill will cure all ill and can do what they want will not reduce the medication that they take.
Those on the other hand that try, they try to reduce their salt intake, try to loose those few pounds, take up exercise have been seen to control their high blood pressure and can reduce the amount of pills that they do take.
Researchers have found something else. If the patient has been using medication for a long period of time and then that medication is taken away... the rise to their "normal high blood pressure" takes longer. If the patient has only been taking the medication for a short amount of time, and is taken away, the rise to their "normal high blood pressure" is quicker.
Side effects seem to be the main issue that patients have difficulty with. It is also one of the main reasons why medications are not taken or are asked to be removed.
Doctors can actually change a treatment regime to a less "side effect prone" medication. However when introducing new medication, they always give you a low dose and then increase it up to the manufacturers "proven levels". So you might find that you get nothing from the drug initially, but as the Doctor increases it the power might become more apparent.
But... if that drug is still ineffective, the Doctor can give you a synergistic drug to help the first one.
We are still taking drugs though aren't we?
If you Doctor is any good they might advise different alternative methods of lowering your BP. Then on the other hand your Doctor might get a percentage of the drug referral money... who knows.
But one thing is for sure, there are plenty of ways without medication that can allow you to reduce your BP without taking herbs or supplements. Check out the resource box below for a quick and easy one.
